Game 1 starter Justin Verlander

P Justin Verlander will start Game 1 of the World Series for the Detroit Tigers.

Verlander, a rookie, went 17-9 this season with a 3.63 ERA, 124 strikeouts, 60 walks and a WHIP of 1.33. Opponents hit .266 off the Detroit hurler during the season, and in 10 postseason innings, he has given up 7 earned runs, including 3 homers. Verlander won his only start against the Cardinals this season, surrendering 7 hits and 4 runs in 6.0 innings.

What should we all expect out of Verlander in the first game of the 2006 World Series?

Re: Game 1 starter Justin Verlander

I'm so glad he's going to get a chance to pitch at home. He hasn't yet experienced the energy of this crowd in the postseason....we all saw what happened to Rogers and Bonderman at Comerica in the ALDS. I'm expecting (and hoping) Verlander to follow suit and to throw the game of his life!!
