Yzerman joins such elite company as #1 Terry Sawchuk, #7 Ted Lindsay, #9 Gordie Howe, #10 Alex Delvecchio and #12 Sid Abel.
January 2 will be the ceremony and no one shall ever be #19 again.
Glad to hear it. Stevie Y basically was the face of Detroit hockey during his career, and he was a damn fine player to boot. I love the fact that the team is going to honor him in such a way.

Yzerman helped Detroit win Stanley Cups in 1997, '98 and 2002. He made 20 postseason appearances and he ranks eighth all-time in the NHL with 185 playoff points. The 10-time All-Star led all active players last season with 1,755 regular-season points, a total that trails only five others in NHL history. He was regarded as one of the best two-way players in his prime.
