All-Time Red Wings Team

The Red Wings have had a ton of great players throughout the years. Terry Sawchuck, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Steve Yzerman, Sergei Federov, Sid Abel, Marcel Dionne... the list goes on and on. But who are the best ever? If you could make a dream team of former Detroit hockey stars, who would you pick?

On the ice:
Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay with Yzerman.
Red Kelly and Lidstrom with Terry Sawchuk in net
and Scotty Bowman coaching

Got no problems with the staring line-up. I'd probably go with a 2nd Team Line-up of :

Dionne at Center
Delevecchio at LW (over Shanahan)
Brett Hull at RW (though his better years were elsewhere)
Paul Coffey at D
Reed Larson at D
Hasek at G (though again only 2 years of serivce)

Personally, I think Coffey was a major disappointment with the Wings. My choice to replace him would by Larry Murphy, who was very effective for the Wings and is also a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Welcome chsbletz,

Coffey was still more than a serviceable player for the Wings winning the Norris in 95, and topping +70 points twice. He just wasn't the player he was on the Stanley Cup winning Oilers and Penguins teams.

Re: All-Time Red Wings Team

The problem I had with Coffey was that he played very little defense. He was more like a fourth attacker when he was on the ice. I think Murphy, who was also a very capable scorer, played a more balanced game. Unlike Coffey, he was never a defensive sieve for the Red Wings.

Re: All-Time Red Wings Team

Kocur and Probert at their prime were fun to watch, not the best scorers, but they did protect them.

I agree, you really have to. Does anyone think Chelios is on the list?

Re: All-Time Red Wings Team

You have to give Konstantinov (sp) a nod there as well, he was more offensivly gifted that he had credit for and played some solid D in a scoring era. Besides he could hit lik no other.

Brad Park as a player not a coach...lol
Ron Dugay
Jonny O

Coffey was awesome here, I think he taught Nick alot! Murphury..... I dunno!
