Over the past several years, this has always been an exciting time for me to follow the Detroit newspapers and national sports web sites as rumors regarding trades heats up with the approaching deadline. This year is proving to be different, but not because the Wings are already at or near their salary cap figure. They have such a solid and well-coached team, that no major change seems to be necessary.

That being said, it will be interesting to see if Jimmy Holland will pull the trigger and bring in another defenseman to shore up the defense. He has commented that he would if given the chance. At the same time, if the right deal surfaces involving bigger names, he'll have to consider it.

It will also be interesting to see what teams like Nashville, Dallas, and Colorado do to prepare for possible face-offs with the Wings in the playoffs.

It's a long shot, but the Wings could sign Free-Agent Peter Forsberg. We have followed this guy twice and at age 34 we could finally nab him, third times the charm, and get him cheap.

If he makes a significant upgrade to the already outstanding Detroit team then we could keep him for longer than the flyers or Preds did. The only problem I see is how the fans react to the former Avs player. Other than that he should be a great addition to the team.
