| Red Wings Goaltenders The Olympic break could prove useful to the Red Wings, as long as the team's European players make it through the remainder of the tournament. The upside is that each player only has two games left.
One area where the break could really prove useful is in regards to Manny Legace. He has clearly shown this year that he can handle the ups and downs of being a starting goaltender in Detroit. The break should help ensure that he is healthy going into the final twenty-five games.
I don't agree with some of the Detroit and national writers who say that the Wings need to trade for a guy like Roberto Luongo. To do so, they would have to give up someone like Zetterberg, and they have Jimmy Howard being primed to take the spot within a year or two. Manny has proven to be amongst the best in save percentage and goals against average, and just got a player of the week honor before the Olympics. He should provide a nice bridge into the Jimmy Howard era and continues to be valuable as a back up or a starter if necessary. |
