AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The 162nd consecutive Pistons sellout was an easier deal to close than most thanks to Paul Davis. The former all-Big Ten center from Michigan State had to come up with about 80 tickets for friends and family and received many more phone calls from other acquaintances who told him they’d be at The Palace of Auburn Hills for Monday night’s game between the Pistons and Davis’ Los Angeles Clippers.
“My dad had to fly (out of town on business), but my mom, my sister and my fiancé will be here,” the Rochester native, who played high school basketball 10 minutes away from The Palace at Rochester High, said before tipoff. “I’ll be looking around the stands to see everybody.”
Davis has played sporadically after getting taken in the second round of the 2006 draft, as have fellow MSU rookies Shannon Brown in Cleveland and Mo Ager in Dallas. In 22 games, Davis has averaged 1.7 points and 1.4 rebounds with highs of 15 points and six boards. Davis wasn’t sure if he was going to be on the 12-man active roster for Monday’s game until Clippers star Elton Brand was made inactive just prior to the game with back spasms.
