AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Less than two hours before tipoff Monday night, Flip Saunders got an e-mail notification that the technical foul Rasheed Wallace was assessed in Saturday night’s win over Toronto had been rescinded by the NBA.

“I just got an e-mail 10 minutes ago,” Saunders said as he spoke with reporters. “The way the rules state, they’ve said they’re going to let somewhat of an emotional outburst go, a quick response and not to carry on. I just didn’t think it was warranted.”

It was the second time this season the league has taken back a technical on Wallace, whose total now stands at 14. An automatic one-game suspension takes effect if Wallace is assessed a 16th technical foul – with additional one-game suspensions incurred for every other technical thereafter.

“It was crazy, man,” Wallace said after the game. “All I said was ‘wooo’ and gave the ref the ball and it’s a tech on me. (Toronto coach) Sam (Mitchell) was in his face the third quarter, nothing. Then an offensive charge on the young fella, T.J. (Ford) and he slammed the ball or something and it was nothing. I already know I’m a target. I ain’t worried about those cats. I just want our team to get treated fair. We’re leading the league in techs, we say something – the slightest thing, a look, a wave or a sigh, whatever – it’s a tech on any of us. Me, (Antonio McDyess), Flip, whoever. We just want to get treated fair.”

It was the second time this season a technical charged to Wallace has been rescinded. The first came on Nov. 18 in a win over Houston when Leon Wood pointed at the Pistons’ bench and told the scorer’s table that the technical foul was “on all of them,” but it was officially charged to Wallace before being rescinded.

So do the refs just have it in for Wallace or what?
