AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Three weeks after Flip Saunders admonished his team for openly wishing the regular season would end so the playoffs would arrive, the Pistons’ coach himself mentioned the “P” word.
“We are starting to play offensively with more playoff-type execution,” Saunders said after the Pistons beat Indiana on Sunday night. “Getting the ball inside, playing off (Rasheed Wallace), playing off Chris (Webber), making those people play at our tempo.”
It’s been nearly two weeks since Webber joined the Pistons and in that time both Wallace and Antonio McDyess have raised their level of play – which probably is more than mere coincidence. As Webber becomes more familiar with the offense, his teammates become accustomed to his passing skills and Saunders expands the playbook to mine all the possibilities now at his fingertips, the goal is for the Pistons to punish defenses down the stretch with an inside-out attack that should be at its best in the playoff grind.
