AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Antonio McDyess isn’t ready to proclaim himself all the way back, but his smile was a little broader Friday than it’s been in a few weeks. Nobody much worried when the man the Pistons consider their sixth starter struggled to open the season. That’s been the pattern since the devastating knee injuries McDyess suffered in his late 20s forced him to alter his offseason conditioning routine.
But when his breakthrough game was so long in coming – and, beyond that, when his shooting percentage started heading south from the upper 30s – well, McDyess wasn’t the only one feeling some combination of nervousness, impatience and frustration. That’s why his 11-point fourth quarter in Thursday’s win over Cleveland lifted more than just his spirit.
