Martz will be calling the plays frm the sidelines and relaying them to either Josh McCown or Jon Kitna. Both are expected to compete for the starting quarterback position. Both quarterbacks landed in Detroit because no other teams were interested in their services. We expect Kitna to be the front runner on the starting job. Kitna played well in 2003 when he threw 26 touchdowns and 15 interceptions for the Bengals.

Words that warm the heart..."No toher team was interested"...I think they were better off developing Joey...but with that trio of receivers even Kitna or mcCown should do well...right?...right?

Harrington was a bust; he didn't do diddly in his time with Detroit before Mike Martz got there, and Martz himself didn't think Joey could be able to handle his offense. That's very telling. Personally, I think either McCown or Kitna (most likely the starter) will have a fantastic season in 2006.

Well, you and the Lions stand alone...the rest of the league passed on those two, while plenty of people didn't mind taking on Joey...just saying...

Cool Re: 2006 NFL Previews - Detroit Lions

I think if there's one team in professional sports that will never win a championship, it might be the Lions. It's just one of those franchises destined to be a laughing stock.

Re: 2006 NFL Previews - Detroit Lions

We can bash the Lions till we're blue in the face; what it comes down to for me is that MIKE MARTZ liked Kitna and McCown better than Harrington. Martz wasn't a great head coach, but he knows offense. He did some good work with a few other QBs nobody wanted when he was in St. Louis if I recall correctly. He knows what he's looking for in a signal caller. These two apparently have it; Joey didn't. I'm just saying...
