Lions players complaining

Apparently, the Detroit Lions have been complaining to league officials and the media that new head coach Rod Marinelli's practices have been too hard. The Lions actually had to give up a couple of days of practices because they got into pads and full-contact practices too soon. Furthermore, Booth Newspapers has been reporting that the players "upset at the high intensity and aggressiveness demanded in the team drills and believed the coaching staff was going over the line."

Earth to the Lions -- you want to be winners? Then you've got to pay the price.

Re: Lions players complaining

Same thing happened with the Giants when Tom Coughlin took over. It may not be pretty, but it's certainly necessary. Previous light regimes need to have their ways taken out of the air and tough coaches like Coughlin and Marinnelli know how to do it.

Just remember, after the first season, the players who whine and complain will be gone, guaranteed.

Upon further review, perhaps Detroit Lions players shouldn't have filed a grievance against the team for violating offseason workout guidelines. ...

Re: Grievance has Lions looking toothless - St. Louis Post-Dispatch

What I love about the article in the post above is the lines attributed to Mike O'Hara of the Detroit news: "Balking at the coach's work ethic - even if the players have a legitimate gripe - is a step into another realm...They drew a line, symbolically and practically, about what they'll accept and how far they'll go to win."

"Frankly, the message is that they loved the Steve Mariucci Health Spa, even if they kept losing. It must have been more comfortable than anyone imagined. Remember the eruption from some Lions veterans after Mariucci was fired? It was because they knew they had it good, that he wouldn't overwork them... The country club is closed, and the foundry is open. We'll see how Marinelli and the players adjust from here."

I hope Marinelli whips 'em all into shape right-good, and dumps anyone who doesn't have the guts and the heart to do what it takes to win. There's no place in the NFL for whiners and complainers who aren't willing to pay the price and put forth a winning effort every second of every game.
