Martz unlikely to return next season

- No one is sure how it's actually going to happen, but it appears Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz will not return next season. While it isn't a done deal yet and there's always the chance for 11th-hour developments, the most likely scenario is that Martz will resign or retire once the season is over.

I wonder if he thought he would eventually get the coaching job. There is no reason for a coach to quit with the weapons he has available.

He wants to be a head coach again, obviously, and there should be plenty of openings. This will be a big loss for the Lions, no doubt.

Re: Martz unlikely to return next season

I believe the biggest reason he may leave is because there was some friction between him and Marinelli. Martz believed he had the weapons for an explosive offense, but Marinelli thought there were other areas they needed to work on.
