Lions rushing attack went good, bad, worse

The Lions turned in the worst rushing performance in modern NFL history when they posted minus-18 yards in Sunday's 31-21 loss at the Arizona Cardinals. It wasn't an NFL record. The Lions hold that for posting minus-53 yards Oct. 17, 1943, at the Chicago Cardinals.
But before 1947, sack yardage was included in rushing yardage. Minus-18 is the lowest rushing yardage total any team has posted since the accounting rules were changed 60 years ago, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The Lions had only eight rushing attempts, tied for the third-fewest in NFL history.

What happened?
It was a combination of poor execution, game situations and play calling.
Some feel the Lions should have stuck with the run, or at least mixed in the run more often, despite the poor results.
It might be tough sledding in the future, too. Jones suffered a serious left foot injury last season and has managed soreness since coming back. He left Sunday's game twice because of soreness.
Marinelli said Jones was sore Monday but no more than usual. The question is how he might react to playing two games in five days. The Lions host the Giants on Sunday, then the Packers on Thanksgiving.
Will the Lions consider playing Jones in one game or the other -- perhaps resting him against the Giants so he can be fully ready for the Packers, the NFC North leaders?
"We'll see how he kind of works out during this week," Marinelli said.
