Kitna: I'm here to win a Super Bowl

Just in case there was any doubt, quarterback Jon Kitna made it clear why he's playing football with the Detroit Lions. One day after the Lions improved to 5-2 with a 16-7 victory over the Chicago Bears, Kitna was addressing a large media gathering in front of his locker. He was asked a wide range of questions and during the course of one answer, he said:
"We're seizing the opportunity right now. You don't get a lot of opportunities in this league to do special things and we have that chance. That's what we've given ourselves by the way we've started the season. You're starting to see confidence come, you're starting to see a little bit of a swagger come out."

A reporter than asked Kitna 'What special things?'
Kitna didn't appear to like the question. Kitna stared at the reporter and then grabbed the reporter's hand and tape recorder and brought it closer to him for emphasis -- to make sure the reporter got every word. After addressing the reporter by name, Kitna said, in a firm and raised voice: "I don't play this game for any other reason than to win a Super Bowl. I'm not trying to go to the playoffs, I'm not trying to win 10 games, I'm not trying to do moral victories . I'm trying to win a Super Bowl. If I don't feel like I can win a Super Bowl, I'm out."

I don't think he's talking big, he wants a Super Bowl ring. Doesn't everybody? If you're not playing in the NFL to win the Super Bowl (and of course provide for your family), why are you there?

Oh yeah, I believe he wants it alright. I just had some question as to whether or not he was still living in fantasy land.

Well, he's halfway to those 10 wins already, so that looks like a safe bet. So why not make it clear that you've got your sights set even higher?

Good for him. Rather than saying some BS vanilla standard quote, he said what he actually meant. Whether he does it or not, that's up to his team and him.

i totally agree ..... you want players with that desire to win ........ if they dont win a SB they are disappointed

who wants a team of players satisfied to go 10-6 ?

Exactly, simon. Show me a team full of guys who would be satisfied with 10-6, and I'll show you a team that'll never get to 10-6.
