Re: Det Lions draft Ernie Sims How can this team pass on Lienhart and Cutler? Did they get Croyle or Whitehurst in later rounds? I am just not entirely sold on these FSU D-Lineman. I suppose The Lions just have some phobia about drafting offense in the first round now, particularly a quarterback. But I still contest that Harrington is skilled enough to be a starting NFL QB, he just needs some protection. Maybe Winston Justice would have been the smart move? Oh well, this franchise is a mess.

Re: Det Lions draft Ernie Sims I was thinking they would take Chad Jackson or Santonio Holmes. Why not take another wide receiver in the first round? Sims should be a very good linebacker but I think the Lions should have gone with Leinart. He will be a very solid QB in a year or two and with the receivers that the Lions already have they should have one of the best passing games in the league if they had a QB who could get them the ball.

Re: Det Lions draft Ernie Sims Guys, guys, guys... let's give the combo of Martz and either Kitna or McCown at least a couple of games before we start calling for the Lions to draft/sign yet another quarterback. If they wind up struggling this season, maybe they'll go for Brady Quinn or someone next year. Somehow I think they'll be OK at the QB position with these two, though.

Re: Det Lions draft Ernie Sims It's not even a matter of immediate impact. Personally I think McCown is underrated (he has a winning record as a starter with Arizona?!), but can anyone really bank on him as their quarterback for the future? If the Broncos can draft Cutler while having Jake Plummer (who is coming off his best year as a pro) in the startgate, I think Detroit could have done the same. Just my opinion.

Re: Det Lions draft Ernie Sims I can certainly understand where you're coming from, but in this day and age I think teams are sometimes TOO quick to draft "the QB of the future". Look at the mess San Diego had gotten themselves into by drafting Rivers, when they already had a young guy in Brees who just that year hit his stride. McCown isn't all that old, if I recall correctly, so if he plays well he probably is a 4-5 year starter. Do you really want a first round QB sitting on the bench that long?
