Jim David, a feisty defensive back who played on the Detroit Lions last championship team in 1957, died Sunday. He was 79 and had been in failing health.
David played for the Lions from 1952-59 and was a member of the Lions last three NFL championship teams - 1952, '53 and the '57 team.
Nicknamed "The Hatchet" for his aggressive and hard-hitting style of play, David was a favorite of teammates and fans. He later became an assistant coach with the Lions and made his home in Metro Detroit.
