Kitnas Off The Deep End: 50 TD passes

Lions quarterback Jon Kitna, just a few weeks removed from saying that his Detroit Lions will win “at least 10 games” in 2007, now has a new prediction. And this one is even more funny than the first. Kitna, talking to ESPN’s Mike & Mike in the Morning, stated this past week when asked how many TD passes he would throw in 2007, he threw out a rather high number - 50. Well, at least that was the feeling when he stated: “We’ve been joking around as the passing-game crew — the receivers and tights ends and stuff — we’ve been breaking down our little huddles saying ‘50′ and all that stuff.” Then of course, realizing once again that he would be the butt of many jokes after such a statement, quickly scaled back - “But we know that’s an awful lofty goal.” Uh, no kidding Jon.
Considering that Kitna’s career high is 26 TD’s passes in 2003, I don’t see him and the Lions, sure to once again be one of the worst teams in the league in 2007, being able to reach that goal. I would be willing to bet that the Lions won’t even score 50 TD’s overall in 2007. Why suddenly Kitna has been making such bold preictions is wild. The Lions are still the Lions, and while the team appears to have a solid wide receiver ready for 2007 in Calvin Johnson, the team is still lacking in overall talent.
Kitna said that the orgainzation itself is not confident, and that is another thing that has to change in 2007. “The thing I think is holding back our organization is expectations,” Kitna said. “Our expectation level has to come up.” As does the play on the field Jon.

Come on, all things should be taken in context. He said they've been joking around about it at practice. I think this is a good sign - Kitna has confidence in his receivers, and they're all excited about the Mike Martz offense and the possibilities it brings.

I have him down as a sleeper pick in a Fantasy draft...the guy has the right mentality and two super receivers.

They may have a fairly potent offense this year. They now have two good receivers,a nd they upgraded their RB position

I think he's just trying to get some enthusiasm up, get both the team and the fans fired up. Guess it ain't workin'.

They say these things every year, "We will make the playoffs" and "We will have a winning record" but they never come true. Lions fans are just sick of it.

Just think how good it is going to feel when it finally happens.

If it ever does happen. I'm hopping it will before I die.

Very true. The Lions are just a hard luck franchise pure and simple.

In some cases, you make your own luck, and I believe that's true with the Lions. It all gets back to their unwillingness to shake things up in the front office. Everyone knows Millen's questionable (at best) personnel decisions is the biggest problem with this team right now. What you reap, you sow.
