Lions' Oklahoma RB Connection Up to the minute news about the Detroit Lions from GoTeamsGo. We'll find the latest Detroit Lions news so you can chat about here. Quote: Will Lions bank on another Sooner?
DetNews.com, MI - 5 hours ago
INDIANAPOLIS It would take more maneuvering than seems possible, but Adrian Peterson could wind up with the Detroit Lions on draft day. If that happens, Peterson will be another link in an Oklahoma pipeline that has given the Lions quality running backs for the past 35 years.
Most of the Lions records and milestones for running backs in that span have an Oklahoma connection.
It started with Steve Owens, the Lions first-round draft pick from the University of Oklahoma in 1970. In 1971, Owens became the first Lions running back to hit the 1,000-yard rushing mark.
Billy Sims, a first-round pick in 1980 from Oklahoma, retired because of injury after the 1984 season as the franchises career rushing leader. And Dexter Bussey, No. 2 on the running list when he retired after the 85 season, began his college career at Oklahoma. He transferred to Texas-Arlington.
