It's that time of year when we get inundated with useless data about NFL prospects: the NFL Combine. What is the point? Good management doesn't need a situation like this to make decisions. Real GMs and coaches watch game film and work the phones. The combine seems more like a marketing opportunity for agents to fatten their bonuses.

What good has it done for the Lions in recent years? We've gotten two talented, but injury prone, receivers and a running back who fits the same mold. The combine doesn't measure the qualities that the Lions need: guts and leadership. If it did, we would have a quarterback who could pick up the team when it falls on its face and receivers who wouldn't give up on routes when they don't get the ball.
