Re: Lions must win... or else!

Bold statements by the author of the above article, Tom Kowalski of MLive.com. He says that the Lions need to win three of their next four games, or else "Marinelli will have to consider blowing up parts of the team, especially on defense. They've already had a full off-season, an entire training camp and a half season to iron out their difficulties in the new one-gap scheme... If the players can't get it by now, the odds are they never will."

Detroit hosts Atlanta this week and the 49ers next week, then travel to Arizona before returning home for a Thanksgiving game versus Miami. So do you guys think they can win three of those four games?

This Detroit Lions fan of Detroit Lions Weblog sees very little hope at the end of the tunnel for the Lions:

So what are the bright spots for the Lions? For one thing, Kitna's played pretty well. What else...

Re: Lions must win... or else! (Detroit News article)

The above article suggests that post-baseball euphoria about the AL Champion Tigers has helped keep the spotlight off the inept Lions, and now the Detroit football team will start to be under more scruitiny this week.

I'm not sure I buy that argument. The author says "the Lions' 1-6 record this season... matches only 2003 among recent seasons for futility... The current Lions have been knocked off by Seattle, Green Bay, Chicago, Minnesota, St. Louis and the New York Jets. Some might say that the Lions could have beaten the Vikings, the Seahawks and the Rams -- some dang things went wrong that destroyed the opportunities for victories... The Lions have new coaches, a new quarterback -- but the same, threadbare alibis. Dropped passes. Missed tackles. Bungled pass coverage. Penalties."

All that's true, but I think that fans see that coach Rod Marinelli has this thing going in the right direction, despite this season's struggles. The team still has a lot of work to do, but the coach seems like a good fit. What do you guys think?

There's one bright spot in the future: The day they show Matt Millen the door.

I'm sure Lions fans are counting the hours and minutes until that happens!
