Jay Cutler has diabetes

Broncos QB Jay Cutler has been diagnosed with Type I Diabetes.

According to the Associated Press, "The 25-year-old Cutler found out about two weeks ago that he was diabetic and needed daily insulin injections, [Cutler's business manager Marty] Garafalo told The Associated Press... He said Cutler was managing his disease and 'in no way is his football career jeopardized.'"

Jay Cutler Has Diabetes!

Good luck to the young man!

Cutler diagnosed with diabetes - The Denver Post

I think he should do fine but don't people with diabetes have trouble healing from cuts and *God forbid* broken bones???

Our old parish priest had diabetes and broke his ankle stepping off a curb. They set it and all but about 6 months later, we found out that they had to amputate from below the knee because gangrene had set in! Comparing a 60-something parish priest to a stud pro quarterback is probably not a good comparison but I don't know any better...

Re: Jay Cutler Has Diabetes!

Well, a neighbor of mine just lost his diabetic son to pneumonia... I guess they couldn't properly treat the pneumonia without causing problems with his diabetes. I don't fully understand, but it's going to be an uphill battle for a professional athlete with the disease. Good luck, son.

Re: Jay Cutler has diabetes

My aunt has had diabetes as long as I can remember...I believe she was diagnosed as a child. She lives a fairly normal life, but she does have problems in certain areas. Her blood sugar fluctuates and she ends up inthe hospital. They may have to have a specialist on the sidelines for him in case of emergency.

Re: Jay Cutler has diabetes

I'm sure the Bronco medical staff will be prepared for any emergency if one arises but frankly I knew a man who lived a long life with type 1 diabetes and as a matter of fact he's STILL alive and a huge Packer fan. I think Jay Cuter will be fine and is going to be a great quarterback.
