John Elway didnt openly criticize Jay Cutler for calling out Brandon Marshall. He said, though, that his 16 years as a quarterback taught him take a different approach. Although he had done it himself, approaching the problem in the media is not the way to do it. With teammates it should be done by talking to him.
He did say that it was the first step in Cutler becoming a vocal leader.
