Re: Rod Smith placed on retired-reserve list

Smith, who missed last season with a hip injury, is the team's all-time leader in catches and was instrumental in helping the Broncos win consecutive Super Bowls in 1998 and 1999.

The 37-year-old Smith underwent left hip surgery in February 2007. He started all 16 games for Denver in 2006, totaling 52 receptions for 512 yards with three touchdowns.

He caught at least one pass in every game, extending his franchise-record streak to 124 games. A 13-year member of the Broncos, Smith holds several franchise records including most touchdown catches and combined yardage.

Good career, slide him over next to Zach Thomas as good players over the last decade.

Yeah, and like Thomas, it's a shame a good career has to end like this. A real shame.

On the whole, I think the players have more loyalty than the team. The teams dont have any loyalty what's so ever.

Yeah, you guys are right. No wonder these guys hold out when they do. They know five years down the road, no matter how much they've contributed to a team during their career, they're very likely to get the boot. Smith's is worse because at least in Thomas' case, Parcells and the new front office really had no loyalty to him to speak of. But with Smith, it's the same front office that was there when he was helping them win Super Bowls.
