Post Cutler to start vs. Seattle?

With two losses in the past five days, it looks like the end may be near for QB Jake Plummer in Denver.

Quote:
KRT Wire | 11/24/2006 | Broncos fall to Chiefs; next question is about Jake Plummer
By Frank Schwab, The Gazette

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - In five days the Denver Broncos' season has been thrown into turmoil.

The Broncos lost, 19-10, to the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving night at Arrowhead Stadium, a disappointing follow up to their loss to San Diego on Sunday night. The future of quarterback Jake Plummer is in doubt after another mediocre performance by the offense.

NFL.com reported Wednesday that the Broncos made the decision to start rookie first-round draft pick Jay Cutler against Seattle on Dec. 3 unless Plummer played well against the Chiefs. Plummer completed 25 of 39 passes for 216 yards with a 1-yard touchdown and an interception.
So with Denver now at 7-4 and struggling offensively, is this the right time to try out the rookie from Vandy?

Re: Cutler to start vs. Seattle?

Yep it is. Shanahan loves the kid and everyone seems to like what he brings to the table in terms of his talents. They have nothing to lose at this point.

The Cutler era in Denver shall begin!

Re: Cutler to start vs. Seattle?

No sense in letting Plummer ride the Broncos out of playoff contention. Cutler is the future...why not see what the kid can provide? Who knows, perhaps he's the shot of adrenaline they need.

If I were the coach, I would never throw in a kid before he has reached his potential or matured.

Like in Dallas, the question is, "Is the starter at the QB position the only think keeping this team from being something special?" If the answer in Denver like in Dallas is yes, and I believe it is, then you need to make the change. Cutler may or may not be ready, but really, there's only one way to find out.

Cool Re: Cutler to start vs. Seattle?

The bottom line on Jake Plummer is that he can't throw good enough from the pocket for the Broncos to win a Super Bowl. So I think it's the right move.
Evidently, FRANKLIN from DEnver Broncos fan blog agrees with me.

We are all over the Jake Plummer starter thing, and if he actually does go out on the field on December 3rd, I am certain many Bronco fans will simply turn off their TV sets and go shopping or something.

Not the same...Romo had years to learn the system...Culter is an out and out rookie...you are messing with a team that is still playoff bound...I wouldn't pull the trigger yet.

Re: Cutler to start vs. Seattle?

I agree this is a horrible decision to pull Plummer now. As you come to the end of the season, the most important thing is to have a guy who can control the game. That AFC is tough, and at this point in the schedule I just don't get it! Seattle finally is getting healthy and thats a tough first game for a rookie. San Diego is now 9-2 and you know they will pose problems. If they want to see what Cutler can do why not put him in against Arizona, San Francisco? Come playoff time I think you are going to want someone who's been there before. So Jay Cutler, prove me wrong....

NFL NOTEBOOK: Broncos make move to Cutler
Chicago Sun-Times, United States - 1 hour ago

Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan ended days of speculation Monday by officially elevating rookie Jay Cutler to starting quarterback for the rest of the season, sending struggling veteran Jake Plummer to the bench.

''I'm excited,'' Cutler said. ''And a little nervous.''

Cutler, the 11th overall pick in the draft last spring out of Vanderbilt, hasn't taken a snap since the preseason. But Shanahan is hoping a quarterback change can ignite the Broncos' struggling offense. The Broncos are 7-4, but they rank 26th in the league in passing yards (171.5 per game).

''There's a lot of pressure on a first-year quarterback, no question about it,'' Shanahan said. ''I think this kid can handle it. I think he gives us the best chance to win.''

Cutler had a big preseason, throwing for 561 yards and compiling the best passer rating in the league (108.3).

''Preseason is preseason,'' Cutler said. ''I don't put a lot of stock in it. This is a different animal. We're playing for real now.''

Buzz is back in Denver as Broncos turn to rookie QB
Seattle Post Intelligencer - 4 hours ago

KIRKLAND -- Eleven games into the season, with his team battling for its division title, Mike Shanahan is starting a rookie quarterback in Sunday night's game against the Seahawks.

What in the name of John Elway is the Denver Broncos coach thinking?

"Well, I just thought he gives us the best chance to win," Shanahan said this week.

In the worst-kept "secret" since the breakup of Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, Shanahan made official Monday what had been speculated for weeks, and even reported last week: Jay Cutler is replacing veteran Jake Plummer, who had stretched Shanahan's already-taut patience fiber-optic thin.

So, ready or not, it's up to the first-round draft choice from Vanderbilt to lead the Broncos where they have not been since Elway retired after the 1998 season -- deep into the postseason.

The question for the Seahawks, of course, is what to expect from Cutler in the nationally televised game at Invesco Field.

Not only did Cutler look he's 10 years old but he looked like a deer in headlights.

Re: Cutler to start vs. Seattle?

And he loses on a last second field goal. So you're saying that Cutler is gonna be awesome when he gets a little experience, right? Always happy to put words in your mouth
