If we're talking purely American-born players, I'd have to rate Brian Leetch #1 and Modano #2. After them, the list would have to include (in no particular order) Chris Chelios, Pat Lafontaine, Jeremy Roenick, Phil Housley, Joey Mullen, Neal Broten, Tony Amonte and Tom Barrasso. And still I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting...

Well on his way to being number one. Top three, in no particular order, ould be Leetch, Modano and J.R..

I think when it's all said and done he'll own most of the American born records.
