maybe so .. but he didn't use it much last season.

problem is they need someone with his skills and if they let him go, there's not very many like him out there to choose from.

Re: Should Dallas Bring Back Zach Thomas

Thats it in the nutshell RD. He has the skills but didnt use them much last year. And there isnt much out there that is better thats available. However, he did say once last year that since he was new, he didnt think he should be the one to step up. Maybe now that he has one year with the team he will be more comfortable stepping up.
It could all be a moot point though since he has said he doesnt want to come back.

you don't motivate leaders to lead, nor do you give them permission .. they motivate others by leading.

he may have the skills, but without that "intangible" that kick starts a leader, he'll never be one.

that said (and from personal experience) I know oftentimes a leader needs an initial push start or two to understand leading comes from inside, not outside. he should have already had that push start before getting into the NFL.

So you are saying he wasnt a leader in Miami?

he may have been at the head of their parade, but I doubt he did much true leading .. if he had, and if he truly has leadership in his blood, then going from Miami to Dallas shouldn't have changed what he does naturally.

it's like this: some people have all the skills to lead, and when pressed into service they will .. they make good "middle management" people. but real leaders don't care where they are in the "structure" of the organization .. leading just comes naturally: they are the people who others just start following without being told to.

I believe Zach is one of those with the skills but it isn't something he does naturally. he needs to be "put" into the leadership position, rather than being one naturally. he said himself he "he didnt think he should be the one to step up" .. leaders don't think that way, they always fill the void, sometimes just because everyone gets in line behind them.

Re: Should Dallas Bring Back Zach Thomas

Actually I think you are right. I think Jason Taylor was the leader on that defense in Miami.
