Kicker signed

July 31, 2006
Cowboys sign kicker

The Cowboys signed former Cal kicker Tyler Fredrickson today to a one-year deal.
Fredrickson worked out for the team after Sunday's practice, handling field goals, punts and kickoffs. Fredrickson, born in nearby Santa Barbara, was cut by Denver and Seattle the past two years.

Also today, the Cowboys released cornerback Byron Parker, linebacker JJ Horne and receiver Ahmad Merritt.

Seen the Ahmad Merritt cut coming..he was dropping ball's left and right in camp.

Rookie safety Pat Watkins' dazzling interception during 11-on-11 drills. Watkins, the fifth-round pick out of Florida State, picked off Tony Romo's flea-flicker pass intended for Terrance Copper and raced down the right sideline to the delight of his new teammates.

Parcells said Monday that Watkins has a real chance to compete for playing time at free safety.

I know it's early but i'm excited about Pat Watkin's chance's at being special in our secondary!..at free-safety!.one of the Cowboy's eyesore's last season.

Not according to Matt Mosley's observation's..

To my keen kicking eye (and with a little guidance from an expert), I'm able to tell you that Shaun Suisham (pronounced SWEE-zum) is the best kickoff guy in camp. If Mike Vanderjagt's not able to handle the duties, Suisham will get the first shot at winning the specialist job. He appears to have strengthened his leg in the off-season, but more importantly, his timing is better.

Vanderjagt speciallty is basically field goal's .. hasn't kicked off regularly in two years.

Vanderjagt says he can handle the chore. Parcells wants him to prove it, which is why kicker Shaun Suisham will spend at least a couple of months with the team.

I'm not familiar with the kid Tyler Fredrickson...it's early we'll see how it all pan's out in camp in the coming day's i guess Dark Knight.

Cool Re: Kicker signed

The Cowboys are strictly looking for somebody to kick off. Vanderjagt doesn't like to kick off. So whomever kicks off best will be on the team.

Bit of a wasted spot if you ask me...unless the guy doubles as a punter...that would be something...if not...wasted spot on the team

Cool Re: Kicker signed

True but Parcells is saving a roster spot by having Marcus Coleman on the team since he can play both corner and safety.
