Roy Williams NFL's most overrated player

Is safety Roy Williams of the Dallas Cowboys the most overrated player in the National Football League? That's what Pete Prisco of CBS SportsLine.com thinks, saying that Williams "struggles in coverage, which is why teams were able to exploit the Cowboys with some big plays last season... There is no way he's a better safety than Adrian Wilson of the Cardinals or Sean Taylor of the Redskins, two players who should have gone to the Pro Bowl ahead of Williams."

Grizz, a blogger over at Blogging The Boys :: Is Roy Williams the most overrated player in the NFL?, disagrees, pointing out "Certainly he's never going to be a coverage safety - he is a SS after all - so his value lays in getting turnovers, sacks and making momentum changing hits. You can't underestimate that in terms of establishing your defense as intimidators and it does lead to guys hearing footsteps and causing some 'alligator arms' when receivers go over the middle."

So, is Roy Williams the NFL's most overrated player? If not him, then who?

No way...I think Roy is great at what he is asked to do...and that is play the safety position like a roaming linebacker...he is not asked to be a corner coverage type...so you have to evaluated him based on what he is asked to do.

Re: Roy Williams NFL's most overrated player

I agree. I'm actually pretty high on Williams. Most overrated would be a tough call to make, on the whole. Fred Smoot's up there. I always felt Deion in his prime was overrated. Aaron Brooks. I'd probably dub Michael Vick the most overrated NFL player right now, though. Of course, I'm pretty sure I've already done that elsewhere on the board at one point or another...

Re: Roy Williams NFL's most overrated player

Williams should reside more often as an “in the box” safety,No question that William's was a liability in coverage last year. But Roy has'nt exactly had complimentry cover saftey since Darren Woodson got injured and retired the two were great as a tantum together.

I don't know if Coleman's the answer at the free-safety position or not mentally i think so but i don't know if he's got enough left in the tank,i hope so if not Keith Davis need's to step his game up but to me he's another ss that eccel's on special team's. Justin Beriault will get some look's at the position ,he was turning some head's in training camp last year until he went down with injury.

I would like to see Pat Watkin's win the free-safety spot but until he learn's the system he'll probably see alot special team duty...i hope he's a quick study i like his 6'5" frame and his speed. They say he ran stride for stride in mini-camp with the receiver's but that was shell's and short's i wanna see what he can do when they strap on the gear.I have high hope's for Watkin's and i like the pick.

Welcome back Wolf...I thought you were going by Warewolfe94...what's up with the 2005???... ...6'5" guy at safety huh?...I rather they bring back the days of Cliff Harris and Charlie Waters...loved Waters out there big time playoff player...saw him pick 3 passes against the Bears in the 1977playoffs, 2 against the Rams in 1978 playoffs, and block 2 punts in a losing effort to the Rams in 1976...but I am still a fan of Roy...hope this guy Watkins pans put as well.

Yeah me too..must have been a glitch or something i could'nt log on with WAREWOLFE94. I have'nt posted that much on the board and i 've kept what few post's i have made respectable and professional as i could so i would say it was some kind of error. No biggie.

Yeah man! I remember what the Cowboy's did against the Denver Broncos in the bowl. With Harris at free-safety and Water's at Strong safety they were the ultimate duo in the secondary! Them boy's would bring some serious wood and flat out knock your block off!Cowboy's smashed Denver 27 -10 in Bowl XII.Watched the game with dad year's ago...heck i was just a kid but that game left an impression on me even then.
