| Phillips shouldnt sugarcoat Cowboys' ugly finish If you listened to Wade Phillips' season-ending news conference the other day, it's pretty clear he still doesn't grasp what happened in the Cowboys' only playoff game.
If he did, he certainly wouldn't talk about the Cowboys advancing to the Elite Eight, further than any Cowboys team since 1996. Or he wouldn't still be talking about what a great season it was. Or how the Cowboys were a better team than the Giants because they had huge advantages in total yards and time of possession.
That's not the point.
If the Cowboys had lost to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game, then he could talk about having a great season, because the Cowboys would've ended their streak of 10 seasons without a playoff win and the season would be viewed as a success.
But you can't start the season 11-1, wind up 13-3, lose your only playoff game to become the first No. 1 seed in this current format to lose that early and call the season a success.
It's one thing to treat your players well and quite another to give them a false sense of reality. That should trouble a lot of folks at Valley Ranch. |
