Cowboys would be foolish to let Phillips go

There is no doubt at all that Wade Phillips should remain in Dallas as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Although Phillps' career post season record is sub par, owner Jerry Jones should not judged him based off of one game. The Cowboys had one of their best regular seasons, going 13-3 and locking up home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Cowboys were also one of the highest scoring offenses in the league and sent a league record 12 players to the Pro Bowl in Honolulu this year. In addition, Wade Phillips was able to effectively manage Terrell Owens successfully this year, something that several coaches have not been able to do. This year Owens has been extremely quiet and has stayed out of trouble, only racking up a few fines this year. Phillips certainly should deserve some of that credit.

Although many analysts believed that Phillips and the Cowboys would make an appearance at this year's Super bowl, the Cowboys season was not as disappointing as most would think. At the beginning of the season did the Cowboys want to go one and done in the playoffs? Of course not. However, this wasn't a team that barely squeaked into the playoffs.

The Cowboys had a dominating year and just fell short yesterday in the playoffs. Now teams are judged by what they do in the playoffs and not in the regular season but there is certainly much hope for the Cowboys next year. Phillips has done a remarkable job preparing the Cowboys and he shouldn't get judged based on one game.

Lastly, coming into the game, the Cowboys were without wide receiver Terry Glenn for nearly the entire year. Terrell Owens also played hobbled against the Giants and only had 49 yards of receiving. The Cowboys look in great shape next year.

Re: Cowboys would be foolish to let Phillips go

I'm still up in the air on Phillips... I mean... you can't argue with the season he had.... but, at the same time one wonders if it's just with the regime change. It's no secret Parcell's is a stickler/harda$$. Phillips is on the other extreme, and it worked well for most of the season.... but it's like a group of people who have a management change. Their previous sup had them worked into a well rounded group and they still did great at first with a new sup... but with time the new sup couldn't keep them in that same performance.... does anyone get what I'm sayin. Time will tell, and next season could be the one, and I hope so.

I get what you are saying. But still, Phillips achieved more with this team than Parcells did. But they did start getting more penalties all the time. At the beginning of the year, they did better. A team that gets a lot of penalties just doesnt really go anywhere. I think its a prime indication of how things will go.

I understand that. Still though, is it because things were more laxed and they weren't used to it, and now they are.... I don't know.... I guess we'll just have to pray and wait til next year.

I rather have Garrett...though he may end up being better off as a coordinator.

Re: Cowboys would be foolish to let Phillips go

I have mixed feeling about him staying. I wanted him fired in the post game press conference after the game, but my stance has softened somewhat.

I want some answers first as to what he thnks caused the December swoon this team did. Then I want a plan to correct it.
