There is no doubt at all that Wade Phillips should remain in Dallas as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Although Phillps'
career post
season record is sub par, owner Jerry Jones should not judged him based off of one game. The Cowboys had one of their best regular seasons, going 13-3 and locking up
home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
The Cowboys were also one of the highest scoring offenses in the league and sent a league record 12 players to the Pro Bowl in Honolulu this year. In addition, Wade Phillips was able to effectively manage Terrell Owens successfully this year, something that several coaches have not been able to do. This year Owens has been extremely quiet and has stayed out of trouble, only racking up a few fines this year. Phillips certainly should deserve some of that credit.
Although many analysts believed that Phillips and the Cowboys would make an appearance at this year's Super bowl, the Cowboys
season was not as disappointing as most would think. At the beginning of the
season did the Cowboys want to go one and done in the playoffs? Of course not. However, this wasn't a team that barely squeaked into the playoffs.
The Cowboys had a dominating year and just fell short yesterday in the playoffs. Now teams are judged by what they do in the playoffs and not in the regular
season but there is certainly much hope for the Cowboys next year. Phillips has done a remarkable
job preparing the Cowboys and he shouldn't get judged based on one game.
Lastly, coming into the game, the Cowboys were without wide receiver Terry Glenn for nearly the entire year. Terrell Owens also played hobbled against the Giants and only had 49 yards of receiving. The Cowboys look in great shape next year.
