| Abrupt ending hard for Romo to accept This was no day at the beach. A distraught Tony Romo was at a loss for words Sunday evening when he stepped up to the podium following the Cowboys' 21-17 loss to the New York Giants in the NFC divisional round of the playoffs on Sunday. With his head down and his voice barely discernable, the quarterback tried to put into words his feelings about such an abrupt ending for a team seemingly destined for Super Bowl XLII. "We had good position going into the playoffs here," Romo said in a press conference following the game, "and it's just disappointing because you put forth so much effort and time and when you don't come through, especially at the quarterback position, it's a tough pill to swallow." "Momentum-wise obviously (the Giants touchdown before halftime) didn't help," Romo said. "Give the Giants credit; they did a good job today. Our guys up front battled them hard. From what I could tell, their pass rush was really good. It was a great game. I'm just very frustrated and disappointed." Last season's bobbled field-goal hold against Seattle seemed closer than ever for Romo on Sunday night as he relived the devastation of leaving the playoffs empty-handed once again. But this year Romo sees a light at the end of the tunnel; no longer is he the unknown backup taking over for the aging starter. His record-breaking season as the starting quarterback for the Cowboys brought him unmatched success but still hauntingly familiar disappointments. "I've grown up in the sense that I'm not naïve enough to believe that everything is going to work out perfect," Romo said about going 13-3 in the regular season and then losing here on Sunday. "So I appreciate the moment sometimes, even though we didn't accomplish our goal that we set off to do, which is the Super Bowl . . . I wouldn't trade this season with these guys and this coaching staff and that was the most fun I've been a part of in my entire life. It's credit to those guys there. "I think we've definitely turned this organization in the right direction around here and I think we'll be back in a lot of these games in the future with the chance to win a lot of them." And so Romo ends his second playoff appearance, thinking about another year, another game, and hoping for yet another chance. DallasCowboys.com - News
