Dallas Cowboys linebacker Greg Ellis was voted the National Football League's Comeback Player of the Year after rebounding from leg surgery and making a position change. Ellis beat out New England receiver Randy Moss to become the first Cowboy and first linebacker to win the honor. He received 12 votes from a nationwide media panel in balloting conducted by the Associated Press. Moss got 10 votes.
Ellis moved to linebacker from defensive end this season and recorded 12 1/2 sacks to earn a berth in the Pro Bowl. He missed the final seven games of last season after tearing his Achilles tendon and having surgery.
