Fire Wade Phillips?

Wade Phillips could be out of a job if Dallas loses on Sunday? Seriously?

According to the Fort Worth Star Telegram, "With offensive coordinator Jason Garrett a hot candidate for jobs across the league, there has been speculation he might earn a promotion in Dallas if the Cowboys don’t win Sunday. When asked if he is worried that his job was on the line in Sunday’s NFC divisional playoff game against the New York Giants, Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said what’s he’s done in leading to Dallas to a franchise-best 13 wins and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs 'stands for itself.'" Wow. Just, wow.

Re: Fire Wade Phillips?

I think that is more because they want to keep Garret, than thinking he did a bad job. Wade is 60, and nearing the end of his career. I don't think Dallas wants to lose Garret, and neither do I.

Maybe they cold offer him some cushy post, since he really doesn't deserve to lose his job.

I like Garrett...I don't see them firing Phillips after a 13-3 season...then again, San Diego got rid of Marty last year after a great season.

Very true, and I didn't think that was fair either. And the crazy thing is that they didn't even have someone in the organization to replace him!

Re: Fire Wade Phillips?

So they're looking at firing a successful coach and promoting Garrett just so they don't lose him? If I'm Garrett, that's not how I want to get my first head coaching job - at the expense of someone I work with, someone who doesn't deserve to be canned. And besides, what happens if the team takes two steps back? How would that look?

What if you "promote him?"...give him a Bill Parcells-Miami type position???...would Jerry Jones do that ?

Would Jones do it? I doubt it, unless it was a figurehead position with no real power.

Well, that a chance you might have to take. If there wasn't so much interest in Garret from other teams, it might not happen. I'm not saying it's right, but...

I just know they are in a bad spot. They play this last month hasn't been great. And the coach is the fall guy. Personally, I'd rather just have them win this week, and make this a moot point. If they can make it as far as the Super Bowl, maybe they just offer Garret more money to comp him for staying. Then they can give him the job in a couple of years.

I honestly don't think he is ready to be a head coach. Plus, wouldn't you rather be an assistant on a good team, than take over Miami or Atlanta??

We shall see.

Absolutely, I would. No question about it.

Washington, a playoff team, and a rival suddenly has an opening...

Yeah, but they'll be hiring from within. I doubt Garrett's a candidate there.

Why?...you can have a young coach cheap...and put the hurt on divisional rival Dallas all with the same stroke of the pen.

Well, if you're Daniel Snider, I guess it depends upon whether or not you like what you're building or not. If Gibbs has the team on the right track, just hire from within and carry on. But if you hire Garrett, know that you're essentially hitting the reset button and will likely need to wait at least 2-3 more years to get back to the playoffs.

Cool Re: Fire Wade Phillips?

I don't care if the Cowboys lose 35-0. If they fire him, it will be a joke.

Re: Fire Wade Phillips?

I dont think Mr. Garrett is anywhere near ready to be a head coach. If he wants to be a head coach, let it be somewhere else.
What does he know about defense anyway? Can anyone tell me?
