well... he was a quarterback... and I'm pretty sure he remembers what defenses gave him fits.

Nothing. Which is why he needs to stay. But none of them ever just stay. The leave teams where they have good spots, in search of glory and cash. Most of em end up screwing up!

How many Dallas Coordinators have been lousy head coaches elsewhere?

Plenty!

Isn't that what Jones is doing now. He would have to fire himself. I hate when an owner tries to step in on the coach.

Exactly. That's why I can't see Jones doing this, or at the very least giving Phillips just a figurehead position.

That's the thing. Not only Dallas coordinators but a million of them couldn't make the transition. Joe Walton of the Jets, Kevin Gilbride, etc...

Not good enough. Knowing which ones gave him fits and planning them are two different things. He's not ready to be head coach material.

Jones isnt going to give anyone a figure head job. Either Phillips coaches or he's out.

And I say either the Cowboys offense puts up a much better showing in the playoffs, or Garrett should be shown the door.

I think you will find the successful coach is the one who recognizes his limitations and finds people who excel in those areas to fill out his coaching staff. Gone are the days where a single person knows everything about every part of the game. That's why there's so many people on the modern pro coaching staff .. tons and tons of specialists. The head coach is more a manager and motivator than a teacher of skills or designer of plays (offensive, defensive and special teams.) That isn't to say he doesn't have something to say about what they use. But a good captain doesn't have to keep the engines running or the radar working, he just needs to know how to use each to his advantage.

He's been doin it for many years now. That's the main reason we lost Jimmie Johnson as head coach. I dislike Jones with a passion, almost as much as I dislike Jeff Gordon.
