No-mentum for Cowboys heading to playoffs

Tony Romo stunk on a cold, gray drizzly Sunday afternoon at FedEx Field.
No need to quibble about that.
In this case, the numbers don't lie as Romo completed just seven of 16 passes for 86 yards with an interception before retreating to the sideline after the first series of the third quarter against Washington.
There were a few dropped passes, and Romo didn't have injured receiver Terrell Owens, but anyone who has seen him play the past two seasons knows the quarterback didn't come remotely close to playing his best football.
Blame the wet weather. Or the sprained right thumb. You can even blame the gloves he wore to compensate for the inclement weather.
Just don't forget to blame offensive coordinator Jason Garrett.
For the second time in three games, he abandoned the running game, forcing Romo to carry the offense.
This is a trend that needs to stop.
Now.
We all know Garrett is a quality play-caller, and the offense has been prolific, but the Cowboys aren't going to the Super Bowl unless he uses a more complementary style in the playoffs.

Through three quarters, Dallas ran the ball 10 times for zero yards. Dallas finished with 16 carries for one measly yard – the worst performance in franchise history.
In the first half, the running game is more about attempts than yards.

It's about creating short-yardage situations on second and third down that slow down the pass rush because the defense doesn't know whether a run or pass is coming.
Ask any offensive lineman and he'll tell you it's difficult to pass block play after play because they're backing up instead of going forward.
The defensive players will also appreciate Garrett calling more running plays because it gives them more time to rest – even if the offense goes three-and-out.

uh .. what's there to disagree with?

it was a stinko game...if they don't get back to playing like they have until recently, they won't have to worry about the playoffs 'cause they'll be out!

They have a week off to get things straight.

Romo: Quit thinkin about Jessica
Owens: Getter better and no temper tantrums
Whitten: get your a$$ open
Jones: Pound that ball through the line
Barber: Run through the other team
Glenn: Get your legs back
Flozell: Don't make stupid penalties

That pretty much sums it up.
