Running game left behind

Run the ball.
It's that simple.
The Cowboys didn't run enough Sunday against Philadelphia.
It was surprising because offensive coordinator Jason Garrett said he wants balance.
That means run and pass with efficiency.

How's this for balance?
Of the Cowboys' 55 offensive plays, they ran 15 times.

Sunday against Philadelphia, Marion Barber tied a season low with seven carries.
Starter Julius Jones carried seven times for a season-low 5 yards.

Running the ball doesn't necessarily mean success. But it helps.
Dallas has built its season on passing. It's why Tony Romo is considered one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.
But with Romo struggling, the Cowboys needed help.

Re: Running game left behind

If Dallas has any intention of going deep into the playoffs, they really, really, need to get that running game going again.

Re: Running game left behind

The problem Sunday against the Eagles Bette, was that everytime the boys tried to run, the Eagles saw it comin and stunned them at the line. They need to figure out how to open up those lanes for the Runnin backs.

The good news is, that not all defensive co-ordinators are named Jimmy Johnson.

IF Romo hadn't been so off, the lanes would have opened up...as it was, he was still getting to Witten underneath even at their worse, they had something going.

Yes, they do. And I don't buy putting this all on the Eagles defense, though they did a great job against Dallas. Garrett gave up on the running game too early, plain and simple. When you have a weapon like Barber in the backfield, you need to use him, early and often. Trying to fling the ball around like a college team isn't going to win you many games.
