| Cowboys needs to get Owens involved Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens strung together four consecutive 100-yard games, and five in six heading into last Sunday's game in Detroit. But suddenly there has been a disappearance in the past two games. "We came out flat," Owens said of the Cowboys performance against the Eagles "We couldn't get anything going offensively. In the 28-27 victory over Detroit, the Lions placed heavy emphasis on making sure Owens didn't beat them. But then Owens followed that up with only two catches against the Eagles after putting up a season-high performance against his former teammates in the first meeting of the season Owens refused to place blame on any one person, especially his quarterback Tony Romo, who struggled more in this game than any other this season. Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips knows the Cowboys can't allow teams to continually take Owens out of what had been a potent offense until kicking but two field goals against the Eagles, saying, "We didn't get the ball to our best player; that concerns me." Owens did not catch his first pass until connecting with Romo on a 19-yard reception with just more than 13 minutes remaining in the game. That Owens was held in check was as much a credit to the Eagles' defense as it was to Romo and Owens seemingly not on the same page for most of the game. "Hey, we lost this one, we can't dwell on it," Owens said. "We just played bad." Owens suggested this first loss in eight games will serve as a wakeup call for the Cowboys with just two games remaining in the season. And the chance of a downward spiral in December? Again? Don't ask T.O. "I don't worry about the history," he said. "I wasn't even a history major in college, so I don't worry about that history." But his confidence comes with a disclaimer: The Cowboys can be their own Achilles' heel. "We can only stop ourselves," Owens said. "I think it was very evident today that if we're not on our game these are the results we're going to get. We know the talent and the capabilities of this offense and this team, so we just need to re-group as an offense and finish strong." As for his limited input two weeks in a row, Owens stuck to being a P.C. team player all night. "Whatever I do during the course of the game is going to help us win the game," he said. "I know my role." That role, though, needs to expand . . . and soon. DallasCowboys.com - News
