| Cowboys D pressures Favre Brett Favre proved for 11 games that Canton-bound quarterbacks, even at 38 years old, can pick apart defenses if provided enough pocket time. The Cowboys' defense never gave him that chance Thursday night, from his opening snap to cornerback Nate Jones' vicious second-quarter sack that knocked him out of the game with an elbow and shoulder injury. "You've got to make him throw the ball quick or he's going to throw the ball downfield," Cowboys defensive coordinator Brian Stewart said. "You've got to pick your poison. What we wanted to do was make him throw quick and try to tackle the throw, and that's what we did." Favre is now 0-9 all-time at Texas Stadium, and his latest struggles stemmed from a relentless pass rush. Linebackers Greg Ellis and DeMarcus Ware combined for all three of the Cowboys' sacks, and the defense recorded nine quarterback pressures on Favre and Packers backup Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers, the ongoing heir apparent in Green Bay, flustered the Dallas defense with his scrambling ability in the second half. He also stayed cool in the pocket, completing 18 of 26 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown. But Ware's fourth-quarter sack on Rodgers might have been the game's most critical play. Trailing 27-24, Green Bay faced third-and-5 at its own 40 but couldn't convert, and the Cowboys scored on the next drive to take a commanding 10-point lead. "It did make it tough, especially on the rushes," Ware said of Rodgers' six runs for 30 yards. "We're back there rushing on him and sometimes we'd get out of our pass rush lanes, and he'll make you pay. Not enough to atone for Favre's painful return to Texas Stadium. DallasCowboys.com - News
