| Packers Grant poses challenge for Cowboys When Dallas Cowboys linebacker Bradie James first noticed that the Green Bay Packers ranked last in the league in rush offense, he figured running back Ryan Grant must not be much of a threat. But that was before James watched tapes of Grant gaining 104, 55, 119, 88 and 101 yards in the Packers' last five games. The Packers called on the 6-foot-1, 218-pound Grant after a rash of injuries shelved their other runners, a largely unproductive group that allowed defenses to focus primarily on quarterback Brett Favre. With Grant in the lineup, that's no longer a problem. In five games as a starter, he's gained 467 yards on 101 carries for a robust 4.6 average. Grant first gained fame as a three-sport high school star in New Jersey. He signed with Notre Dame, where he played as a true freshman and enjoyed a 1,000-yard season in 2002. In 2003, he split time with future Cowboys running back Julius Jones. Injuries hampered Grant in 2004, and he went undrafted the next spring. Grant eventually signed a free-agent deal with the New York Giants and spent 2005 on the practice squad. In 2006, he was on the Giants' non-football injury list after he slipped and fell on a glass at a nightclub, suffering nerve damage in his left arm. Grant's running style is hard-nosed, a trait he shares with Marion Barber, the Cowboys' leading rusher. MySA.com: MySanAntonio: Dallas Cowboys

| Re: Packers Grant poses challenge for Cowboys yes, as a freshman. The next year he split carries, and then he got hurt. I think he is just now coming into his own. Circumstances prevented him from doing so earlier like most runners do. |
