| Cowboy Defense gives Offense a lift Three quarters into a chilly Thanksgiving evening at Texas Stadium, the firepower that had propelled the Dallas Cowboys to the top of the NFC was decidedly muted. Dallas' high-flying offense, ranked second in the league, was downright pedestrian. Tony Romo had passed for a mere 143 yards. Terrell Owens had managed only 43 receiving yards and had not scored. But there was no concern on the Cowboys' sideline. The defense had taken care of things. That's not something to be taken for granted. Though the Cowboys entered yesterday's game ranked ninth in the NFL in total defense, their pass defense was 24th. In Dallas' previous outing, Washington quarterback Jason Campbell torched the secondary for 348 yards, his first career 300-yard game. But this time the defense wasn't about to let a young quarterback light it up. "This was a statement game," linebacker Bradie James said. "And the statement was, we've got to keep losing teams losing and show everybody we're a dominant force out there as a defense. "Today, we lived up to our formula - stop the run, get to the quarterback and create takeaways. That's what we did today." Cowboys' defense gives offense a lift -- Newsday.com
