Cowboys wide receiver Terry Glenn still has a long road ahead before he's able to return to practice following Sept. 13 arthroscopic knee surgery, but he has begun running outdoors - a positive step toward his goal of potentially returning this season.
Tony Romo and Terrell Owens had relatively quiet Thanksgiving Day performances by their standards, but the Cowboys' quarterback-receiver tandem each came closer to breaking a respective franchise record.
Romo's two touchdown passes against the Jets tied Danny White's single-season touchdown record of 29, set in 1983. His 22-yard touchdown throw to Terrell Owens in the fourth quarter increased Owens' season total to 13, one shy of Frank Clarke's 45-year-old record of 14.
With starting receiver Patrick Crayton inactive against the Jets, second-year receiver Sam Hurd started for the first time this season.
Although only targeted twice, catching one ball for eight yards, Hurd, along with fellow second-year receiver Mile Austin, who finished with two catches for 30 yards, attracted enough attention from the defense to keep them from completely keying on Terrell Owens.
- Among the inactive players for the Cowboys was wide receiver Patrick Crayton, sidelined with a sprained left ankle. The other players who did not dress include CB Evan Oglesby, RB Tyson Thompson, G Joe Berger, OT Doug Free, OT James Marten, WR Terry Glenn and DT Remi Ayodele.
- When the Cowboys opened up in a special defensive package with three cornerbacks and only two linebackers, that left Pro Bowl safety Roy Williams off the field for the game's first play. It marks the first time in Williams' career he did not start a game, snapping a 90-game consecutive streak dating back to the 2002 season. Williams played the majority of the game and finished with three tackles and a pass deflection.
- With his touchdown catch Thursday, tight end Jason Witten now has six touchdowns - tying his career high (2004 and 2005). That also gives him 20 touchdowns for his career, tying him with Terry Glenn for 11th on the club's all-time receiving touchdowns list.
- Although he started in place of Patrick Crayton, Sam Hurd recorded four special teams tackles and forced a fumble on the first kickoff. Hurd had one catch for eight yards.
- Second-year receiver Miles Austin recorded his first two catches of his NFL career for 30 receiving yards.
- Terence Newman scored his first defensive touchdown of his career and first score since returning a punt for a touchdown last season against the Lions. Newman now has three interceptions this season, closing in on the season-high of four he recorded in 2003 and 2004.
Romo's father, Ramiro, was out of the hospital and back home watching Thursday's game after undergoing successful prostate surgery last week. Ramiro Romo was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late September
