| Cant touch these Cowboys-Mickey Spagnola Cowboys 31, Giants 20 was, well, let head coach Wade Phillips, in his wry sense of humor tell you: "This was a big win - I won't say a Giant win (snicker, snicker) but a big win." How big was it? The Cowboys (8-1) have taken command in the NFC East with seven games remaining, owning a two-game lead over the New York Football Giants (6-3), along with the head-to-head tiebreaker by beating them a second time this season; a three-game lead over the Washington Redskins (5-4) and a four-game lead over the Philadelphia Eagles (4-5). The Cowboys put an end to the Giants' six-game winning streak, and any prevailing notion this was a much better Giants team than the one the Cowboys beat by 10 in the opener, 45-35. This time they beat 'em by 11, and at their place, leaving no doubt who is the better team. Go ahead, especially after this one, let your mind wander. Don't be afraid. Start thinking big. Like real big. Like Super-size those thoughts. OK, look, I know there are still seven games remaining. I know the Cowboys still have to play Green Bay and Detroit and the Redskins twice, and after watching this team play for some 23 years, I know stuff happens in the NFL. But did you guys watch this stuff? This wasn't like the Cowboys going to Arizona and getting creamed (See Detroit). This wasn't like the Cowboys playing host to fading Philly and getting beat (See Washington). Why, it was the Cowboys with the bad defense this day, registering five sacks to the Giants' two. It was the Cowboys with two interceptions and four touchdown passes and having scored touchdowns on three consecutive possessions to turn a 14-10 deficit into a 31-20 early fourth-quarter lead. Now were they perfect? Absolutely not. Have they been perfect? Absolutely not. "Wide open," Crayton said was the reason behind what everyone thought was foolish boasting on his part so early in the season. "Just look at Coach (Jason) Garrett's mentality. He's not putting his foot on the brakes. He's got a heavy foot on the gas." DallasCowboys.com - News
