Romo pounds the pulpit

One thing that's become obvious about Tony Romo since taking over the Dallas Cowboys a year ago Tuesday is this: He's not full of a lot of bull. He's pretty truthful. Oh there's times he'll hand out the trite stock answer, just to say the right thing, but you can tell, he's even bored with himself during those seldom times. And the rare times he bites his tongue, refraining from being forthcoming, well, he can't even keep a straight face. He'll even smirk at himself. So when Tony Romo preaches, you should listen, and Monday here at The Ranch, Romo was pounding the pulpit of sorts.
"To be 6-1, you're not apologizing to anyone," the one just 17 starts into his NFL career said. "It's not easy to get wins in this league."
He knows, though, what's being said after the Cowboys barely recovered - the operable word being recovered - to beat Buffalo, 25-24, then lost a third-quarter lead in the 48-27 loss to New England and had to grind hard for a 24-14 victory over Minnesota on Sunday at Texas Stadium.
Haven't played anyone much but the Pats. Aren't beating everyone soundly enough. Don't look like a Super Bowl team.
And when it came to the Vikings, "The only way to beat a team (and make everyone happy) is to beat the Vikings by 25 points," Romo began, gaining steam. "It's not that easy.
"The one thing you look at, at the end of the day . . . ."
Romo looked up to make sure he had everyone's attention, and then as if to emphasize his very next words, he pounded the huge cardboard box sitting in front of him as if his personal pulpit with his right fist when saying, "We're 6-1."
Bottom line.
Not sure about everyone else, but at least he made me smile. He reminded me of Troy Aikman back in the heyday, when any Cowboys loss was roundly chastised and any narrow victory was a minimized achievement along that journey of winning three Super Bowls in four years.
Aikman was insistent that "it's so hard to win in this league."

This team knows it is not primed for a Super Bowl. They know they have a lot of work to do.
I am one of those who was thinking and saying those things Tony preached about. We tend to compare teams against the Colts and Pats and the like, but the fact is, the Cowboys have accomplished a lot so far.

Yeah they are...they may not win it...but they are the top of the NFC and therefore Super Bowl material

Well, yes, in the sense that they are at the top of the NFC puts them in line for it, but they know, and have said, they have a lot of work to do.
