Cowboys coach Wade Phillips spent most of his press conference today dealing with the report from Peter King on HBO's Inside the NFL that he had said, "New England was caught cheating, and it is a black mark on their success."

"It's ludicrous to demean a team that did a great job, won all those games and deserve every bit of it," Phillips said.

According to Phillips, King went into the interview with an agenda to try to get him to say something negative about the Patriots and their former practice of video taping opposing coaches' signals, also known as Patriotgate.

"That was his agenda," Phillips said. "He went on and on about, 'This is a Watergate thing,' I mean that was his feelings on all of that stuff, and for some reason he thought I agreed with him, and I absolutely do not."

King and HBO have issued statements standing behind King's quote. But given Phillips' denial, King should offer a fuller explanation of the context in which Phillips gave the quote so that Inside the NFL viewers can decide for themselves what to believe.
