Cowboys dealing Jones next spring?

Word in Dallas is that the Cowboys have such high regard for Marion Barber, a fourth-round draft pick, that they might trade Julius Jones next spring and sign Barber to a huge contract extension. -- Star-Telegram

Interesting. Well, they can't keep both forever, and the general consensus seems to be that Barber is the better of the two backs. So, yeah, why not deal Jones and replace him with a rookie in next year's draft? Makes sense to me.

Re: Cowboys dealing Jones next spring?

Last I heard, it was the fans that are clamoring for Barber. The coaching staff and supposedly the running backs are ok with things the way it is.

Cool Re: Cowboys dealing Jones next spring?

What is Julius's contract status? I mean, he was terrible for the last 3/4 of last season. I don't see much of a market for him.

Re: Cowboys dealing Jones next spring?

I believe that Jones is in his final year of his contract.
But this is the thing. Jones was all excited this year about this new offense and how it would play to his strengths and running behind big Leonard Davis. Jones is the faster runner of the two backs. So far this year he has had few outside running attempts. In Miami, 11 of his 13 carries were right up the middle. This is not his strength. He needs more pitches, sweeps and stretch plays.
See, if Dallas doesnt start playing to his strengths, and they have the means to do so, then some other team is going to get a very good running back in the future and his name will be Julius Jones.

He is still on my fantasy team, so he better get it going...

At one time I believe there was talk of them looking for a rookie. I want to say Arkansas? Does that sound right?
At any rate, since then Tyson Thompson has really stepped up and the Cowboys are quite pleased with him.

Darren McFadden of Arkansas probably is the guy you're referring to, but with the Cowboys winning like they are, they have no shot at getting him.

If they let him run to the outside, he will get you your points. Lots of them. If the play calls dont get changed, its not going to happen.
