Cowboys strong safety Roy Williams expressed anger over the team's decision to release veteran cornerback Aaron Glenn. When asked if he talked to anyone in the organization about Glenn's release, Williams said Monday, "Why, I'm just going to be preaching to the choir. It doesn't really matter. They took care of what they had to do, right." Glenn, a 14-year veteran, was signed Monday by Jacksonville after Dallas cut him on Saturday. Williams said Glenn was the Cowboys' third-best cornerback. "Yeah, most definitely, he's a great cornerback for us," Williams said. "I feel that if Terence [Newman] couldn't play, Aaron would be the person that would have started." -- Dallas Morning News

Coach Phillips said in spite of all that Glenn had to offer, he didnt meet the criteria to make the squad. Some of those criteria are can he start now, would he be a possible future starter, and can he play special teams. Glenn turned 35 in July and didnt play special teams, and obviously wasnt a long term answer. In the end, the Cowboys just felt more comfortable with Reeves.
I understand this has an impact on how Williams plays, but he needs to cool his jets and do what he's paid to do. Then he needs to let the coaches do what they are paid to do.

It's all well and good that Phillips has an eye for the future, but at the end of the day, you need to put the best 11 on the field defensively. If he's not doing that because Glenn won't play special teams and won't be around in 2009, he's robbing the Cowboys of a chance to win right now.

Not so sure Glenn fits that criteria either. His biggest asset was his experience, not necessarily his ability.
