| Talented team makes it tougher for rookies to make team Back in April when the Cowboys had completed the final rounds of the NFL draft, owner Jerry Jones was excited about the picks his team had made. However, he also stated that with all the talent on the roster, he didnt see more than 6 or 7 of the rookies even making the team. So now, about 10 days away from the final cuts, it appears Jones was right on the money. Not only does it seem rather unlikely that all 8 draft picks will make the roster, but it could be one of the first times in several years that not a single undrafted rookie free agent will make the team. What does that say? "I think it just shows you how hard it is to make the team now. We've got a lot of vets here and each one is pushing for that No.1 spot. So it's kind of hard for a young guy to come in here and right away contribute," says veteran defensive tackle Jason Ferguson. When the Cowboys are good, there's not much room for rookies or first year players. Only 4 are virtual locks to make the team--Anthony Spencer, James Marten, Doug Free and Isaiah Stanback.
