| Re: Cowboys and Broncos ready for game So in that sense, Romo comes to today's exhibition with twice the experience of Cutler (10 starts to five). In reality, both are still green in the National Football League, and whether either team can find playoff success will depend upon its young quarterback becoming an efficient passer in a hurry.
New Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said he thinks Romo can overcome the inexperience factor.
"The good thing is he plays every play in practice like it's a game," Phillips said. "Some quarterbacks, they treat it as practice. They don't throw the ball away; they don't dump the ball down when they need to.
"He's not that way. It helps him with game experience even though he's not playing in [a] game."
Romo was sharp in his first preseason test. He kept things mostly short but completed 10 of 11 passes for 93 yards on two field goal drives against the Indianapolis Colts. He looked more like the good Romo of the first five regular-season starts (10 touchdowns, two interceptions, six sacks, a 4-1 record) than the bad Romo of the last five (six touchdowns, eight interceptions, 13 sacks, a 2-3 record). I am so not sold on this kid...and mark it down...it will haunt this team to have passed on Brady Quinn. |
