The Playmaker is inducted The Playmaker, Michael Irvin, is inducted into the Hall of Fame today.
One of 17 siblings, he played at the University of Miami after high school. In the NFL he was nicknamed the Playmaker because of his ability to make outstanding plays. For years, the NFL had a system of two wideouts. Michael Irvin never had a complementary wide receiver. When Troy Aikman threw the ball, the whole world knew he was throwing it to Michael Irvin. That never stopped him from catching passes for franchise records.
He was one of the Triplets, along with Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith.
In spite of the problems in the flamboyant wide receiver's personal life, he was selected to 5 straight Pro Bowls and had 7 1,000 yard receiving seasons. He is still 11th in the league in receiving yards and 16th in receptions.
His career was cut short by a spinal injury and he left after the 1999 season. |
