| Re: Greatest Cowboy Of All Time You guys are probably getting used to me by now, but I've got an obscure selection, a "homer" choice. He'll probably never make the HOF, or even the Cowboys Ring of Honor but, ... .
Raised on the Waianae Coast, and the younger brother of an established star-athlete, I'm going to go with Mark Tuinei.
The ex-Warrior "walked on" to the Cowboys (FA tryout) as a defensive lineman. He was in fact, the only Cowboy listed throughout his career as both, a DL-man and OL-man. He came in for an injured Randy White in one game and logged 11-tackles. Only one of 2 players from Tom Landry's days (the other Bill Bates), he went on to anchor the Left Tackle spot on 3 SB teams. In an interview once, Emmit Smith commented that Tuinei was the guy in the locker room that nobody messed with - he was the bull.
In Hawaii, we refer to them as "the Quadruplets" - with Tuinei being the 4th. His older brother Tom played briefly for the Lions and the CFL. His premature death was devasting to the fans of Hawaii - some still haven't gotten over it. |
